Privacy

ICV is committed to complying with the National Privacy Principles (NPPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act). From 21 December 2001, the NPPs will govern how organisations in the private sector handle 'personal information' (being information or an opinion that can identify someone).

What personal information does ICV collect?
ICV may collect personal information from:

  • volunteers;
  • communities; and / or
  • those it has business dealings with (e.g. suppliers).

If you are one of ICV's business contacts we may collect basic business contact information from you (e.g. your name, title and work contact details). Generally ICV will not ask to collect sensitive information about you (such as details of your race, political beliefs, religion or health) unless it is needed for the purpose of conducting our business. If we ask to collect sensitive information, we will advise you of the necessity at the time of collection.

How does ICV use personal information?
We need to collect personal information so that we can conduct our services. We also collect personal information so that we can contact people who may be interested in providing volunteer services, where they have indicated a desire to do so.

If (at any time) you do not wish to receive these kinds of communications, please let us know. ICV's policy is only to use personal information collected from business contacts for the business purpose for which it was collected.

Will your personal information be available to anyone else?
ICV does not sell, rent or trade personal information about you, to or with third parties. Personal information may be disclosed outside of ICV in the following circumstances:

Disclosure to external service providers:
ICV may disclose personal information to external service providers who help us operate our business. If ICV engages external service providers, ICV takes steps to ensure that those external service providers:

  • comply with the NPPs when they handle personal information about you (regardless of whether they are a small business, and would otherwise be exempt from the new privacy laws); and
  • are authorised only to use personal information for the purposes specified in our agreement.

Disclosures to participating Indigenous communities:
ICV will disclose personal information to participating Indigenous communities for the purpose of arranging volunteer placement.

Disclosures required or permitted by law:
In all other cases, ICV will only disclose personal Information if this is required by law, by agreement with the Commonwealth or any State Government or as permitted under the Privacy Act.
