When talking to an ICV Project Officer some of the questions and information ICV may want to know about your community will include:
• Does your community have a vision or community plan?
• Have there been discussions about the plan in the community and has the community identified specific projects?
• Have you spoken to other service providers and are any involved?
• What are you asking ICV to contribute to your project?
• Do you know who the key people are that are involved or need to be part of this project for it to work?
• Does the community have the available time, resources or tools to support this project?
• How will the project build capacity of the community and be sustainable
Whether it is urban Australia or on an island in Australia’s northern waters - a bit of lippy, make up and nail polish, goes a long way in helping a young woman’s self-esteem and education.
This was the case for teenage girls on Croker and Goulburn Islands.
A project involving deportment and grooming for young women was put together by the West Arnhem Shire Council in partnership with Indigenous Community Volunteers (ICV).
I am just a city slicker really. Well, until I volunteered with ICV.
My most recent project is assisting Walgett Aboriginal Medical Services (WAMS) with their Silver Jubilee in April 2011.
