Frustrated by fruitless efforts in seeking Aboriginal economic development assistance from various sources, she called ICV with the intention to gain the skills required to access the financial assistance needed to support her work. Jarlmadangah - Community Store
Lesley Butt, formerly employed by the local school, has been running the Jarlmadangah Communtiy Store ever since ICV volunteer Jega Sandrasekaram visited back in 2003. The store is well stocked and now runs at a small profit which is continually being reinvested to further its development. Read more...

The Centre has provided a unique place to foster a sense of pride in the Aboriginal community and is keeping the community culture alive by acting as a museum for artefacts, stories and information regarding Aboriginal history, culture and tradition. AFL CAPE YORK – Sports Academy
Kickstart is a program aimed at “improving the health and well being of young Indigenous people. It is directed at youth aged 5-15 years living in remote communities within North Queensland.” The emphasis is on developing life skills, building self esteem and giving kids an opportunity to succeed. Kadjina - Fruit & Vegetable Garden
“One of the most gratifying aspects of the project was the ‘whole of community’ interest”. Firstly, late on day two one of the families on their ‘sunset walk’ with the kids and dogs, dropped by to see how we were progressing. The following day the primary school kids arrived with their teacher to donate paper and cardboard material to supply mulch for the garden.
