International women’s conference in Darwin – and ICV plays a part.

Darwin is hosting people from both hemispheres for the 9th World Indigenous Women and Wellness Conference with Indigenous Community Volunteers [ICV] playing a role. ICV people from around Australia plus staff from the Darwin office are involved in the 3-day gathering, providing assistance in areas such as media, logistical support and registration.

ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE

Staging one of Australia’s major Indigenous cultural festivals in a remote part of the country requires a wide range of expertise. Some of these skills are supplied by the army of volunteers working at the Garma Festival in East Arnhem Land underway from August 6th –10th. Indigenous Community Volunteers [ICV] are a part of a team of 130 who have given up their time to help in making it a positive experience.

WILLING TO PUT UP HER HAND

It is a wish to “understand the cultures and people” that helps drive Jan Allen to be involved with Indigenous Community Volunteers [ICV]. After years as a veterinary surgeon, and now working in animal welfare in remote communities she is on her first ICV project at the Garma Festival in East Arnhem Land after working with several other volunteer organisations in Samoa and Bali.

GETTING THE MESSAGE OUT

The record number of Indigenous Community Volunteers working at the country’s premier Indigenous festival is not the only way ICV is participating at Garma in the Northern Territory’s East Arnhem Land. The festival which runs from August 6th – 10th is also a chance for ICV to explain to people what it does and also the chance for it to raise funds needed to continue its growth.
