Derrimut Weelam Women's Holistic Healing Journey

Volunteer Wilson with Kalie from Derrimut Weelam Gathering place.

With permission from Elders and the local community, volunteer videographer Wilson was invited to create a video of the Women's Holistic Healing Journey and event held at the Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place in Mordialloc, Victoria.

The Women's Holistic Healing Journey featured a Welcome To Country by respected Boonwurrung Elder N’Arweet Dr Carolyn Briggs AM, Women's Yarning Circle, musical performance and Possum Skin Cloak making workshop.

The Women's Yarning Circle provided a safe and supportive space for First Nations women to share their stories and connect with one another. This was followed by a special performance from Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung musician Carissa Nyalu.

The Possum Skin Cloak making workshop, facilitated by Taungurung artist and educator Cassie Leatham, offered participants the opportunity to connect with culture through creating a possum skin cloak together using traditional methods.

Wilson will continue to work alongside Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place to create further videos of different activities and events over the coming months. These will promote the story of the Gathering Place and help secure funding for their important work.

It was a privilege to be invited to attend such a special event, and we thank Selina and Kalie from Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place for inviting us.  We look forward to continuing this exciting work and can’t wait to see the final video!
